When machines and bottling plants are cleaned, all these substances end up in the wastewater and are transported to the sewage treatment plant. This complex mixture in cosmetic wastewater is a difficult task for conventional wastewater treatment methods when economical and compact treatment is required.
Water treatment plant for cosmetics production
Over the past three decades, there has been an increasing environmental concern over water pollution at both societal and industrial levels. Pollutants arising from cosmetics have been documented in both industrial effluents and effluents from wastewater treatment plants. To this end, a consistent set of measures should be taken to prevent the emergence of emerging pollutants in water resources.
This demand has driven the development of technologies in an attempt to mitigate their impact on the environment. This work comprehensively reviews the existing methods for the treatment of cosmetic wastewater, including coagulation, dissolved air flotation, adsorption, activated sludge, biodegradation, constructed wetlands, and advanced oxidation processes. Various studies have documented the emergence of cosmetics in samples recovered from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), which has undoubtedly advanced our understanding of the pathways of cosmetics during the treatment cycle.
